Meet the artist

Hi, My name is Solveig, I began experimenting with fluid acrylics to reconnect myself with the mindful ritual of painting and creating. My first attempts with fluid acrylics evolved into little pieces of art, that are  inspiredby destinations I have previously travelled to.

As a passionate yoga teacher, founder of English Yoga Meetup and an everlasting desire to explore new places, the idea of a pop up yoga mat collection was born. In fact, I was tired of having 5 different mats at home: One for home practice, one for the studio, one for travel and one for outdoors. More to the point, none of the mats ticked all the boxes: either too heavy, too thin, too bulky, too hard to wash, too slippery, not long-lasting enough and often times with harmful materials. After testing many samples and receiving a lot of feedback from the English Yoga Meetup community, the perfect pop up yoga mat was found. It finally ticked all of the boxes:

- beautiful, vibrant designs
- recycled materials
- non-slip surface
- suitable for dry and wet hands
- good cushioning
- rolls out flat
- plastic free packaging
- easy to transport and wash

I wanted to create a yoga mat, that is fun to roll out, so that you actually enjoy even more when stepping onto your mat. The destination inspired designs bring you mentally to a beautiful place even on a grey day. Currently there are 2 unique designs to choose from. We have other designs in thepipeline and can't wait to involve our community to help us choosing the next mat design together. Made for yogis, by yogis :)

The inspiration

It starts with browsing travel photos. Solveig scrolls through the photos from previous travels and chooses photos that feel inspiring. She then decides on the colour and mood board.

The creation

The colours are mixed and prepared for the acrylic painting on canvas. Some artworks take one evening and others several days. Sometimes the artwork is repainted or some gold elements are added with an acrylic pen. The completed artworks take around 48 hours to dry.

The scanning

The artwork is scanned by a professional company that specialises in the reproduction of artwork. The file can be then used to reproduce the image on a number of different surfaces. Only a portion of the scanned image is used to create the yoga mats. We always ensure that the colors flow along the long side of the mat.

The production

The file is then sent to the mat manufacturer and a sample mat is produced. The print of the design, the colours and the functionality are checked. If everything goes well, a bigger order is made. The mats are then shipped to Germany and their quality checked, before they go out to the yogi :)
